The BS Civil Engineering curriculum in UPLB offers a wide range of courses covering the different fields of the Civil Engineering profession.  The curriculum was proposed in 1991 and offered the following year with major courses covering the following fields:


Structural Engineering

Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics

Hydraulics Engineering

Geotechnical Engineering

Sanitary Engineering

Transportation Engineering

 Construction Materials and Testing

Construction Project, Planning and Management

Civil Engineering Laws, Contracts and Ethics



In preparation for the major courses, students under the curriculum are required to take preparatory courses in the fields of mathematics, statistics, chemistry, physics and fundamental engineering science.  Courses on irrigation and drainage engineering, field hydrology, soil engineering and engineering economics are also included in the current curriculum. 


 In line with the mission of the department to produce well-rounded and service-oriented students, several courses from the Physical Education (PE), National Service Training Program (NSTP) and Revitalized General Education Program (RGEP) are included in the five-year Civil Engineering program. The students can choose the courses for the said programs following the required units by the curriculum:


1.       RGEP Courses:

v  9 units from Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) domain (3 courses)

v  15 units from Arts and Humanities (AH) domain (5 courses)

v  15 units from Social Sciences and Politics (SSP) domain (5 courses)


2.       NSTP Courses (taken for 2 semesters):

v  Literacy Training Service (LTS)

v  Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)

v  Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)


3.       PE Courses:

v  PE 1

v  3 courses for PE 2 (any from the courses offered by the Department of Human Kinetics)
